Kern County is a sprawling place. Students living in the rural areas may find it difficult to get to Bakersfield College’s main campus. Providing access to these students, who are predominately Latino, is the purpose of the Rural Initiatives Program. I have had the privilege to teach students in Arvin, Shafter, Delano, and Wasco. In the photo above, my students and I take a photo with Dolores Huerta, co-founder with Cesar Chavez of the United Farm Workers union, who was gracious enough to come speak for my Intro to Ethics course in Spring 2016.
